DACs/Digital Source Components
Ever since Wadia Digital introduced its groundbreaking model 107iTransport last year, enthusiasts have been debating which DACs and amps are best suited for use with the iTransport. Now, Wadia has supplied an answer in the form of its new model 151PowerDAC mini ($1195), whose chassis is the same size and shape as that of the iTransport.

Wadia characterizes the PowerDAC mini as a 24-bit/96kHz “DAC with gain,” which provides four switch-selecable digital audio inputs (one USB, one Toslink, and two S/PDIF). Power output is conservatively rated at 25Wpc, though a Wadia source told me that the actual output is more like 50Wpc. According to Wadia’s president John Schaffer, the PowerDAC mini uses proprietary Wadia Digimaster reconstruction filters as did Wadia’s original, high-end-oriented Reference PowerDAC, and uses spline interpolation to rise the digital data rates to 384kHz for “PCM conversion gain.”
